Bio & Experience
I first started taking private voice lessons my sophomore year of high school and continued taking lessons through college. My favorite genres are Broadway/musical theater and classical, but I also love to venture outside of my comfort zone every once in a while.
I first graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 2024 with a B.A. in Biology and minored in Music. In my time at Randolph-Macon I attended several competitions including VANATS (the Virginia National Association of Teachers of Singing), where I placed first in the Musical Theater category for Treble voice and advanced to the Mid-Atlantic regionals competition for both Musical Theater and Classical voice. Experiences like this allowed me to attend workshops and masterclasses where I learned how the smallest technical change can make the biggest difference in your performance.
I have since returned to complete a second B.A. in Music with an emphasis in voice and am on track to acquire a Virginia teaching license. As of this fall, I have been working with a show choir at Chickahominy Middle School for four years now, which inspired my love for teaching. I love working with students and sharing my passion for music with them in any way that I can!
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that the skills you need to become a better musician are built on enjoying the process it takes to get there. Exploring new genres and techniques are an important and inspiring part of the learning process, even if they don’t fit in the “curriculum.”
A large part of being a musician is being capable of expressing yourself through your instrument. As an educator, I provide a judgment-free zone for students to find their voice (literally!) and help them build the skills they need to express themselves with confidence.
Attendance Policy
Should a student need to cancel/reschedule a lesson, I allow for 24-hours notice in advance of a scheduled lesson via email, call, or text. The student will then receive a make-up credit to their account. If a student cancels or does not attend a lesson with no notice or less than 24-hours notice, a make-up credit will not be offered (extraordinary circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
Should a student run more than fifteen minutes late to a lesson without notice, the lesson will be cancelled. If you expect to be late to a lesson due to a prior obligation, it is recommended that you reschedule in advance in order to get your full lesson time.
