Birchfield Piano is a virtual music education company established in 2022 by pianist Xander D. Birchfield. The mission of Birchfield Piano is to cultivate excellent, creative, and confident musicians and provide affordable, flexible lessons to anyone from anywhere. The company is based in the Richmond, VA area, but students can take lessons from anywhere in the United States. Today, Birchfield Piano has students in 3 different states across the the U.S.
We predominantly offer both piano and guitar lessons virtually and our expert instructors are specifically trained upon hire to provide the best quality lessons over this format. Some instructors offer in-person lessons, but we offer all lessons virtually to ensure everyone can have the opportunity to learn at Birchfield Piano. Providing virtual lessons is only one way Birchfield Piano makes lessons accessible to all. We also offer flexible scheduling around the student's needs, affordable lesson rates, and monetary awards for students' hard work. Learn more by visiting our registration page.
"I have learned so much. Xander is very patient and understanding, he’s a great teacher!" - Sharon M.
"This is my first time taking piano lessons and in three months I have progressed quite rapidly and that’s thanks to my instructor’s perseverance and patience. Birchfield Piano is the place to be to learn piano. I also love the efforts the director puts into making this little family such a big community! Loved the Trivia night!!! So fun!!!" - Maria B.
"One of my biggest weaknesses as a musician was how I struggled to read music. It wasn’t that I couldn’t, it was that no one spent enough time teaching me how to. Working with Xander has been really useful and rewarding, he’s been patient and supportive and understanding and encouraging. I never felt bad during these lessons about being someone who’s been singing and performing for years who didn’t read music. Xander made me feel very welcome. I’m VERY thankful and wish him and all his students the best!" - Isaiah M.
The most obvious purpose to taking music lessons is to learn how to play an instrument. Everyone taking lessons will hopefully have that in common. However, there is a little more to it than that. Learning piano boosts confidence, creativity, problem solving skills, and so much more. Studies of student who play an instrument have shown improved skills in analytical subjects such as the math and science fields. Additionally, students will also gain valuable life skills such as accountability, punctuality, and the ability to be a creative, original musician. Our philosophy on teaching incorporates reading music, understanding theory, and improvisational skills often from the very beginning. Students will learn both the theory of music and the theory of musical improvisation throughout their music education at Birchfield Piano. We want students to become their own musician and be lifelong learners. This is what we believe makes a successful, well-rounded musician.
