Things You Need With A Piano
Most musical instruments, including pianos, are not always sold with any of the items below, which you will eventually need.
88 Weighted or Hammer Action Keys
Hammer Action is typically more expensive
A Sustain Pedal
Headphones (if you want to practice in private)
Bench and Stand
Most believe that you have to spend between $500 - $1000 to buy a good piano or keyboard. There are of course many different brands of pianos such as Yamaha, Roland, Nord, etc. These are the big brands, which is why their instruments are so expensive. These are great instruments, but, if you are a beginner, it is not recommended that you purchase something super expensive. Go for brands like Lagrima, Korg, Williams, Alesis, or Donner to start. These are cheaper brands and they are also great instruments, especially for beginners. Below are some links to pianos on Amazon that we would recommend purchasing for a first piano. There are also some links to higher end pianos for the advanced players. If you plan to order instruments online, go to a music store or local piano dealer first. Most stores allow you to play the instruments before buying (see if you like it before you buy) and they also have deals/discounts sometimes. Look for closeout sales or "open box" instruments for the best deals on instruments. Make sure you read the reviews!!! Also, make sure you are purchasing a keyboard or an electric piano and NOT a synthesizer (synth).
Most piano companies (such as Yamaha, Roland, Korg, etc.) sell to instrument dealers. Personally, we would recommend Sweetwater, Woodwind & Brasswind, or a local dealer for the best prices and best quality. However, be careful online, and make sure you read reviews. The instruments selected above are instruments we have learned to be good quality from reviews, price, and product videos. Watch videos on YouTube about these instruments to see them in action before you buy. Cheaper is not always better. Shy away from used the instruments. The closest you should get to used is "Open Box." You should expect to spend at least $200 on a keyboard piano, so get something that will last a while. Feel free to contact us for questions about purchasing an instrument.
NOTE: For the lighter and more beginner pianos, get the beginner piano stand. For the heavier and more advanced pianos, get the heavy piano stand.
